Which idea would you support?
1. The first one, I like the scale idea. 22%  22%  [ 2 ]

As many of you have experienced being on the receiving end of a seemingly unfair chainsaw kill, I'm sure you'll agree with me when I say that something just isn't quite right about it. This isn't a QQ chainsaw op thread, just two ideas I had that would balance the weapon and change the way people try to use the chainsaw.

--- Note, both of these suggestions apply to chainsawing from the front ONLY. Sneaking up on someone from behind would remain unchanged.

My first suggestion is to add some kind of "mini-game" system when chainsawing someone, similar to the button mashing of duels. Depending on how you engage your target with the saw will make it easier or more difficult to get the kill. Here's my idea: When you start the chainsaw, a marker is shot across an arched line. If you manage to move the marker back into the correct level, you'll get the kill. You have about 1 second to do this. If you fail, your target gets away without a scratch. Here's a visual to help explain.

1. This is the base level, which would be what you're aiming for only if your enemy is standing still. It's a guaranteed kill, no aligning required at all. Just push B.
2. If your target is walking, this is the level you'd have to land the marker in. Push B, then move the joystick either left or right (the marker starts at the top and randomly shoots off in either direction) to bring it back into the area.
3. If you try to chainsaw someone who is roadie running / mid dive, here's where you have to land it. It's not impossible, but with the physics of the marker (imagine the arch to be an ice skating rink, and the marker is a hockey puck. That's how it would move across.) attempting this would almost always result in failure, unless you're REALLY skilled or get lucky.

This method would require some skill on the chainsawer's end, it would no longer be a "haha push B and spin around in circles" to get the kill. You'd have to think about what your enemy is doing, decide if you want to try for the saw, then manage to keep the marker within the lines for success.

Alright, this is probably going to be the more accepted suggestion, as it is much easier and chainsaw dueling would be much, much more common. Person A charges person B with the saw revved. Person B, wielding any non-pistol weapon, sees them coming and holds B as well. They would enter a duel, with the chainsaw on top, and person B using his weapon as a barrier to prevent being cut. If A wins, he gets the saw. if B wins, nothing happens, and it ends like a draw with both players still alive.

This way, even if they don't fix the lag which prevents bullets from lowering the saw, it still gives players a defense against that kid who beat the game on casual and charges from 20 feet away playing with Skorge.

Both ideas sound like good modifications. The first one does sound more difficult to execute. For the second idea, it would be cool if the defender wins, then instead of ending as a draw, he could counter with one melee hit.

That's exactly what I initially thought too! But I realized the Lancer user is already taking a huge chance going for the saw, and at the risk of being almost instantly downed half a second after losing to a Hammerburst user nobody would ever do it. I think the chainsaw is a unique aspect of the game, and I'm not trying to get rid of it completely. There are too many people who just love cutting through chunks of another player and leaving a gory pile at their feet. Nerfing it to the extent of being whacked with a melee when you lose would make it incredibly impractical to use in ANY situation.

With it just ending as if it would in a draw, both players have a fair 50/50 chance of living or dying.

I see your point. People would get discouraged because of the potential backfire of using a chainsaw.
